Often there are two separate systems of treatment, one for those with substance abuse disorders and a different system for those with mental disorders, yet good medicine and common sense, tell us that treatment is most effective when the needs of the whole person are addressed. If one disorder is treated and not the other that person is at high risk for continued problems associated with both conditions.""The reason I drank and used drugs is a very simple one, I enjoyed the feeling of comfort and ease, but at the same time my life crumbled around me," said 30 year old Alice, a recovered alcoholic and drug-user.
